A first half strike from Joe Uveges followed up by second half goals from Theo Hudson, Rhys Sharpe and Jack Goodman saw us take down Nottingham Forest B four goals to one at Greenwich Avenue on Tuesday night.
As expected, it as a fast passed, energetic start from the young Reds who looked to get a foot hold in the game. Matt Thornhill had two good chances early on for the Ambers but both of his efforts from range narrowly went over the bar.
The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Theo Hudson found space down the right-hand side to put a low cross into the box which wasn’t dealt with and Joe Uveges had the simple task of guiding the ball past Keehan Willows to give Basford a 1-0 lead.
That lead lasted only 7 minutes as Forest hit Basford with a very quick counterattack. Taeneal Brandy got in behind Rhys Sharpe before he fired his shot into the top corner giving Harvey Woodward no chance.
A double change for Basford at the break saw Dameer Rose and Louis Nicholson take to pitch and Dameer was straight into the action causing all sorts of problems for the Forest backline with his speed and agility. Basford’s physicality payed off in the 54th minute when a Josh Barnes corner wasn’t dealt with. The ball dropped to Diamond Atai who put in a good cross which was met by Theo Hudson who volley the ball past Willows to restore the Ambers advantage.
The young Forest side despite being under pressure most of the second half did still carry a threat to Basford on the counter but the threat of Forest getting back into the game was stopped when Rhys Sharpe picked the ball up 25 yards out before firing a rocket into the top right corner!
Jack Goodman rounded off a good Basford performance in stoppage time when he got in behind Ethan Broomes before firing a powerful left footed strike into the bottom corner. A game that saw lots of youth on display from both sides in a game that was a great advert for local football.
