Captain marvellous Ashley Chambers netted an important winner as Basford United came from behind to win against Stockton Town.

A dominant second half display from Basford saw them turn out 2-1 winners against playoff side Stockton at Greenwich Avenue.

Stockton opened the scoring within 60 seconds after a mistake from Prince Mancinelli was pounced upon by Stephen Thompson which saw him slot past Saul Deeney and gave the home team a mountain to climb.

It nearly went from bad to worse for them as the visitors scored yet again on the 12thminute, but the linesman’s flag was raised immediately.

Since then it was almost all Basford up until the 80th minute. It only took until the 17th for Basford to get back on level terms, as fantastic work by Kacy Butterfield saw him set up a great low driven strike by Jordan Hallam in off the post.

Up until half time the game had petered out slightly, but Basford returned after the break clearly inspired by manager Martin Carruthers and dominated the first 35 minutes of the second half.

It started with a few half chances off of set pieces, the closest came when Hallam struck the bar off a free kick a few minutes before the hour mark.

Basford brought two young players on off the bench, one of those came on and created the winning moment. McKeal Abdullah’s fantastic footwork created space for a devastating ball into the box, which Chambers expertly guided into the goal.

Basford could have easily doubled their lead but Hallam, despite a strong performance, struck the post from a penalty and kept the away side in the match.

That being said, a valiant defensive effort from the Ambers managed to keep Stockton at bay, with the highlight being a great block from Butterfield after a spilled cross was fired at goal from close range, with the game just about staying 2-1.

Basford came out as deserved winners with a very steady performance despite the 13 first team players being out for the side.
