Basford United fell 1-2 at Greenwich Avenue to FC United of Manchester as the visitors completed a quick comeback to take maximum points.
Jordan Hallam put the Ambers in the lead early in the second half, but goals from Charlie Hayes-Green and Matthew Gristovi were the difference as Basford were unable to respond.
The Ambers started the game as the more comfortable size, putting pressure on Conor O’Keefe in the FC United net but couldn’t create a significantly dangerous chance. After ten minutes the visitors began to grew into the game more and had a decent spell of their own, but again couldn’t capitalise.
As the game became more end to end chances soon began to follow, with Basford almost catching O’Keefe out with a looping cross from the left but he just got a hand to tip it over the bar. Shortly after Ash Chambers found himself uncontested in the box as he thundered a difficult header at goal, but it was straight at O’Keefe.
More opportunities began falling for the Ambers as a clever pass from Jordan Hallam released Kane Richards, but his attempt at a curled shot was once again straight at the FC United keeper. Ultimately neither team could produce anything special going forward and the quite uneventful half ended goalless.
Basford had another big chance as the game resumed as a positive move in the box saw the ball teed up for Hallam on the edge of the box, and his powerful shot looked set for the top corner but ended up flashing barely wide of the post.
Barely a minute later and Hallam had another chance as he controlled a pass from Kacy Butterfield beautifully, and this time he tried a low shot into the bottom corner which O’Keefe couldn’t get a hand to, and Basford’s number 10 proved successful on his second attempt to put them in front in the 53rd minute.
Not long after that and FC United should’ve had an equaliser as Noah Halford met a dangerous ball in the box with a header, but his attempt from three yards flew over the bar. The visitors eventually had redemption after a corner caused a scramble in the box, and Hayes-Green was the one who found the crucial space to fire home an equaliser in the 65th minute.
The turnaround was complete as sloppy defending from the Ambers saw Gristovi have a go with a free header in the box, and he took the chance successfully as the visitors took the lead in the 74th minute.
FC United looked the most likely team to score again as full time approached, but it was the Ambers looked like they were bound to score as Hallam found the ball in the box unmarked, but O’Keefe denied him well and the rebound was eventually cleared.
In the dying minutes of the game the Ambers had another chance through Tyrell Waite as he forced O’Keefe out of his goal from a difficult angle, and the FC United keeper once again prevented Basford from getting back into it, and eventually the score stayed the same and the Ambers saw defeat.
