MATCH PREVIEW: FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER VS UNITED

Saturdays on the road...

BY CALLUM WRIGHT

The Ambers will take the road up North to Broadhurst Park, where they will do battle with FC United of Manchester on Non League Day!

United are coming off only their second win of the year after a stoppage time victory over Matlock Town at home, a result that was much needed as relegation rivals creep up in points. Their form on the road does not paint as positive of a picture as that at the Avenue, with four losses on the spin, but after coming off an exhilarating triumph, they’ll be hoping to end that streak with a new lease of confidence.

FCUM’s record at home is a similar story, with three consecutive losses to Warrington Rylands, Workington AFC and Radcliffe respectively. The Reds’ most recent fixture also draws lots of parallels to Ambers’, with a loss streak ending victory over Atherton Colleries with a stoppage time winner after coming from behind. Both teams only have one win in their last five in the league, making Saturday’s fixture a chance to put a good run together.

The goals are mostly shared amongst FCUM’s squad, but midfielder Dontai Gabidon leads with five, with two netted in his last five league fixtures. Remaye Campbell remains top scorer for the Ambers with 10 goals but is still yet to net again since the 3-1 loss to Radcliffe at the start of the year. The Reds have been more prolific than Basford in their last five, with four goals compares to the Ambers’ two, both scored in the last fixture.

Both teams were forced to settle with a point in the reverse fixture at Greenwich Avenue last October, with Toby Ritzema scoring his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Saturdays opponents.
