First team manager Martin Carruthers is pleased to announce his management team ahead of the 2024/25 Northern Premier League, Premier Division season. Martin is delighted to announce the arrival of Saul Deeney who will be joining as Assistant Manager.

Saul Deeney who has most recently been Matlock Town’s number one will be remembered by most Basford United supporters as an exceptional goalkeeper and servant for the club, securing two titles over a five-year period. Martin is keen to stress whilst Saul will double up as back up GK and GK Coach his main emphasis is to assistant with the management of the whole team rather than battling for the number one shirt. Andrew Danylyszyn will remain with the management team as Head Coach and will continue to double up as Educational Head Coach in our Football educational academy. Physio Sian Lee and kitman Josh Wakelin will also be part of Martin’s backroom team for the 2024/25 season.

Finally, the club are sad to advise that Danny Holmes will depart the club. Danny did an excellent job both as assistant to James Jepson, but also navigating the club with firstly Andrew and then subsequently with Martin Carruthers first team to NPL Step 3 survival. We wish Danny all the very best and thank him for his time, effort and commitment to Basford United.

Commenting on the appointment of Saul Deeney along with some brief thoughts of pre-season Martin Carruthers makes the following statement:

“I am absolutely delighted that Saul has chosen to join us at Basford United. He has been a pivotal part of my title winning sides and cup successes. We feel this is the perfect opportunity for him to start his journey within management and his professionalism and work ethic will only instil the right mentality into this group.”

“His main focus will be to improve Kieran’s all-round game so he becomes much fitter and stronger and that will only facilitate his development further. This increased demand on fitness and professionalism will be for all the current and new players and we firmly believe that a really tough and rigorous pre-season will set us up nicely for an exciting season ahead.”

Following the announcement, Martin and his management team have been actively drawing up a retained list, targeting new players for the 24/25 season along with finalising a pre-season schedule.

We hope to share news with our fans and followers shortly.
