LADIES REPORT: UNITED 7-0 LONG EATON

LADIES REPORT: UNITED 7-0 LONG EATON

Marc Williams5 Sep 2023 - 16:41

United run riot on opening day…

BY JOSH WAKELIN

United started the season with an outstanding performance, beating Long Eaton United Ladies 7-0 at Greenwich Avenue with a stand out showing from Phoebe Roe netting a hat-trick on her debut for the Amberettes.

It was Anna Butcher though who opened the scoring with a powerful header that was too much for the Long Eaton keeper who had a busy day. The early united pressure continued and with the very next attack after the restart, Izzy Sullivan crashed the crossbar after good build-up play from the midfield. On 14 minutes Phoebe Roe got her first goal of the game when she was played in behind and with no second thought unleashed a strike into the top corner.

In similar fashion to her first, patient build-up play in the midfield led to Roe being played in behind, this time shooting across the keeper into the back of the net and, on 35 minutes, completed her hat-trick when she slotted past the keeper to make it 4-0 just after half an hour.

Izzy Sullivan commanded the midfield throughout the whole pulling all the strings and on 42 minutes she got the goal that she deserved making it 5-0 and United looked like every attack they would score.

Ash game approached the last minute of the first half, there was time for one last United corner. Long Eaton couldn’t deal with the deep cross and after a goal line scramble Libbi Bexon manged to force the ball over the line to make it 6-0 to the hosts at the break.

The sun beamed down at Greenwich Avenue and with temperatures over 30 degrees on the 4G, United took a more controlled approach in the second half keeping the ball and moving from side-to-side, making it hard for Long Eaton to make any chance in the second half.

They did eventually get their chance on 75 minutes when a loose pass found its way to a striker, but she couldn’t quite capitalise, but it wasn’t before Allana Crawford could make it 7

Sullivan took control of the drop ball and played it into Devon Cousins who slotted it into Crawford who slammed it past the keeper and into the net to round off a comprehensive win.
