Basford travel to Loughborough Dynamo

Basford travel to Loughborough Dynamo

Neil McGowan15 Sep 2016 - 07:00

Basford United First Team make the short journey to Loughborough Dynamo on Saturday (3.0)

The team will be looking to build on their first win of the season recorded last week with the aid of two late goals and Coach Mark Clifford said;
“It's always important to get that first win under your belt, we have played well enough in games to have had more points on the board, at this level if you don't concentrate for the whole game you will come unstuck.

“The late comeback from us was well deserved, we dominated possession for large periods of the game and got what we deserved in the end.”

Injuries have taken their toll on the Basford side, with Rob Darkin the latest casualty, but the players who have come in have impressed. Clifford said:
“The young boys that came in were exceptional, Jake made a match winning save when we were 1-2 down and that could have been game over, he is a real project and will feature more this season as he challenges Saul Deeney for the number one shirt. Callum Smith, arguably the man of the match, his vision and eye for space makes him a prospect that can't be ignored. A run of games could see this young player excel for the club. Zydane Richardson we know has more to offer and he took an elbow in the face which resulted in him losing a tooth. This young man will be one to watch.

“Harry Wakefield came on and showed energy and power which no opposing defence wants to see late in such a tight game. The depth of young players at the club is frightening, we have Robbie, Jake, Jack Wood, Jack Duffy.”

“Our long term Injuries of Darkin and Duffy have been a blow for us. Rob Duffy has been operated on and has been in working with Cam our physio. Rob has still been a positive influence on the squad and is able to give good advice to the younger lads when needed.

“Darks' injury was another blow especially for him as he is an honest hard working lad that would have been a huge part of the success we will have this season. All the boys wish them both a speedy recovery and we know they will stay involved as the season plays out.”

As to the prospects for Saturday, Clifford said;
“Loughborough will be a side full of guile and will be a stern test. It's early days in the season and as much as it’s a cliché we are really only concerned about how we approach the game both mentally and physically. We know if we get it right and stay focussed we will get the rewards we deserve.”
