A goal in each half from Ash Chambers was enough to beat Blyth Spartans as we returned back to Nottinghamshire with maximum points on Saturday afternoon!
It was a bright start from United and we earned ourselves a free kick right on the edge of the area after only a minute however skipper Matt Thornhill's free kick could only find the Spartans wall.
The first dangerous attempt of the game came from Chambers whose effort was drilled low and hard towards the bottom corner but Harrison Bond made a great save to keep the hosts on level terms!
Chambers wasn't to be denied for a second time on 18 minutes after Josh Barnes corner was flicked on by Tyrell Waite before Kacy Milan headed it down for Chambers to tap home from 2 yards to give United a deserved lead.
The goal somewhat woke Blyth up as the lively Joao Costa had two glorious chances to get Blyth on level terms but a superb block by Nelson Aideyan and a fantastic save from Saul Deeney denied the Spartans forward.
Tyler Dacres had a great chance to get a second for United on the stroke of half time but he fired his shot straight at Bond in the Spartans goal!
The second half started like the first with Basford dominating much of the ball and creating chances but were unable to take advantage. The pace of Rev James proved difficult for the Spartans defence to handle and it almost led to United getting a second goal but Josh Barnes couldn't quite get the connection to divert James's cross goal wards!
Blyth started to grow into the game in the second half but they were struggling to get past a stubborn United defence who made sure no shots troubled Deeney in goal.
Ash Chambers got his and Basford's second in the 75th minute when Deeney picked out Barnes on the left hand side who then played a loverly through ball to Chambers who fired home in off the far post to but the game out of reach for the Spartans.
Academy scholars Joe Uveges and Dameer Rose who made his first team debut had chances to inflict more damage but were enable to convert their chances but nevertheless less it was a third straight league victory away from home for United. A win that equals last years away points tally already!
